What would have happened if Golding had crashed a group of boys and girls on the island instead of just boys? How would that society be different from the one Golding depicts?

If the group on the island had included girls as well as boys, I think that the little uns would have been cared for. Also, I think that Simon would have bonded with the girls because he was more sensitive. I think the story would have been less brutal. -coolblogname
If there were girls and boys on the island the litle uns would have been taken care of and not lost. There would have been more organization and not so much violence.
I think if there had been girls on the island the "littluns" would have been nurtured more. Just in general (whether through nature or society's presure) girls seem to be mroe nurturing than boys. Boys are raised to be tough and in control of their emotions, while girls are raised to be sensitive and caring. So i think that the "littluns" would have had a head-count, would have been more involved, but possibly their could have been more fighting among the boys. Since, boys will be boys, and will try to impress the girls by being arrogant and silly.
hey! If there were boys and girls on the island i think it would be either completely caotic or it would work really well... Either the girls would be the really organized ones and take care of everyone and be proper and the boys would hunt and provide food and they wouldn't be so violent because there are girls on the island. Or, it would be a complete mess and the boys would either end up killing the girls as some sort of sacrifice for the beast or take advatage of the girls or the girls would lose control of themselves and be truly evil little girls. ~Lil' Dork
If Golding included both boys and girls, the story would be so much different. There would be even more divisoin among everyone as to who the leader should be. The girls would be more sensitive and loving to the littluns, and they wouldn't have allowed the boys to be so brutal. I also think that the boys would keep the girls' drama under control. I alos agree with coolblogname that Simon would be more attached to the girls, and i think that Piggy would be more open with the girls as well. -tickletight
In response to coolblogname and anonymous I pose a disagreement... we always are saying "girls are mean, brutal and brats" maybe girls would make it more difficult bringing drama and other silly issues to the iland. Yes, perhapse they would care for the little ones but what about they're girly tendencies; not wanting to get dirty, definately not wanting to squat and use a tree as a bathroom and maybe a sense of modesty that would cause problems. ~Cozyfresh~
If it was girls were included on the island, I think several things would have changed. It is human nature for guys and girls to work together for survival because each specialize physically and mentally in different tasks. However, although survival might have been easier and overall leadership, the violence on the island would not have decreased significantly at all. It was not just men that caused the haulacaust and women can be very powerhungry as well.
I agree with everyone. If there were both girls and boys, I think there would be more of a balance and more talking. I don't think there would be as much violence and I definitely know that they wouldn't have lost those littluns. -ForgetRegret
If there were boys as well as girls on the island i think the whole book would be completely different. Most girls take care of themselves and when put into danger, the people around them. Therefor the little uns would be taken better care of and i believe that piggy and Simon would have not been killed. Woman bring sanity to the world. =]
If there had been a group of girls and boys stuck on this island it would have been dramatically different. They would have they been able to organize so much differently than they did, because my guess is that people would have fallen into what some would consider their natural role. My guess is that they would have split boys and girls and they boys could all go out and hunt and most of the girls would tend to the fire. I mean it may sound sexist but I do believe that people would naturally split like this because of what we view as our strengths and capability's.
Yes, I belive that thing would be diffrent on the island. I think that girls would try to take the leaership roles, but the boys would start to listen at first then get feed up not listen to them and slack off or start their own tribe.
I disagree with Barbie. There wouldn't be more organization. If there were girls on the island, I think iot would've been more of a disaster. There would be fighting and arguing over jobs and responsibilities, and who was leader. Also, face it, girls like boys when they're twelve, and there would've been a lot of fighting about that, too. -Smiles:)
I think that it would have depended on the age of the boys and girls that would have crashed. If the boys and girls would have been the same age as the boys in the book i think that there probably would have been alittle bit more rule and the girls would take sides and take care of the boys alittle bit better then they were actually treating each other.
Belle, I completely and totally agree with you. If both girls and boys were there, they would split up and girls would tend to the fire and littluns and the boys would do the hunting and all that. The idea of naturally splitting because of gender is very true when we're of that age. As we grow up though, we tend to swing into the mix of boys and girls. -ForgetRegret
I think that it would've been a bit more controlled because I think that girls come with more of a loving heart to protect others. They are born to care for their children and protect them from harm, and I think that if there would've been girls on the island, they wouldn't have turned on each other as quickly.
I disagree with smileyface16. Yes, the little ones would be taken care of, but with the way girls are, they'd probably turn on each other faster. More girls means more drama.
Skittles-- just having girls doesn't mean drama. I mean I agree, girls do have a tendency to be moe, backstabbing I guess you could say, but other than that I think the girls would pull through more as "motherly' rather than catty with the littluns there. Unless they were agruing over the littluns.
I think the story would be much different. It could have gone in two different ways. I think the guys might have taken advantage of all the girls and maybe become even violent towards them. Or if the men were gentlemen then they would include the women and maybe they could have a more rounded society. -sleepingbeauty<3
the society i think would have still been the same and only the strong would have survived after the girls and guys teamed up with each other like on survivor there would be certain alliances every where
