Anarchy
Golding clearly felt that anarchy--a social system with no central government or ruling class in which every person acts for him or herself as an independent part of a peaceful society--is impossible. What do you think? Why do humans need a strong government, rules, laws, and social structures to keep us in line? Could society exist free of government?

Anarchy is impossible; people will always want to be in charge. Again, I find myself calling people power-hungry. There is only one country practicing Anarchy
is Somalia, and they are in such shambles that no international planes will go into the country. We can't send aid (medical etc) to the people in the country and there are constant power stuggles between several groups of militia. I wouldn't call that a success story.

Human nature wouldnt allow for this type of society. There will always be violence, because we as humans want power, material items...Our greed and competitiveness would drive an anarchal society to violence and chaos.

Ok so in my opinion I don't think that an anarchy is completely impossible in all situations. I do believe that you can make it work for at least a short period of time as long as you get the right age group together and have the few responsible people.Although in the real world anarchy can't really work because no days there are more selfish people who don't care about anyone but themselves, as apposed to the few people who want to get somewhere in life.

There are always going to be leaders or people who just want more power. I think that some people are always going to be content as a follower, like Roger, and some people will always want to be leader, like Jack. Human nature makes anarchy an impossible system.

I think Anarchy is nearly impossible. It is human nature to want power and control. Humans need a strong government because it is motivation to do good things and to stay out of trouble. Government is a very important part of society in that it can save innocent people (piggy and simon) from getting hurt. If the government is not strong enough it will get overulled which is a clear example in Lord Of The Flies.

I think it is impossible because not everyone is good at everything. You need leadership, hunting, gathering, building skills, all these diffrent skills to survive. With out some type of government people would steal, kill and not be ounished for their clearly wrong actions

Anarchy is such a loose term. By definition, it's defined as a "state of nature", with no government, no leaders; just people governing themselves.
Yet, by governing yourself, isn't that in fact a form of government? So, how can we say that there is such thing as anarchy?
Even in a situation such as Somalia: random radical militia groups run the country. Isn't this a form of government? No matter how bad it seems?
It makes you think: is anarchy really a possible idea? Does it really exist?
Hmmm.....

I think that humans need a strong government because if they don't have one, it will be just like the book. Everyone will be trying to kill each other.

I think that if people have no ruling or laws to go bythey will not know how to act and whatever they do they will think that it is right and there would be no punishment for them. I personaly think that there can not be anarchy in the world because there isnt anyone to model yourself after.

I do not believe that anarchy could ever exist in our world. This is because there are always going to be those people that strive to have organization and rules to live there life by. People need rules to live by.

Conflict will always be present in any society. People are too strong willed to live in a society with no governmental order. Anarchy is not possible. There is no way to live peacefully with others when you have no structure. Everyone wants power and that alone will lead to conflicts.
Humans need to have structure. We desire to have someone else think for us, so there is no way a real society could exist totally free of government.

hey!
so i disagree with like the first 4 and probably more haha :P Really if we were not born into a soceity that made everyone think humans are naturally bad or there will always be those people who will be evil we wouldnt have it! holy wow! yes i think we can live in an anarchy or at least we could have if we started that way.

I agree with Gardenstate and their view on the anarchy situation. I don't believe that anarchy would ever truly work because someone will always be governing you even if it is just yourself. It would not work for people to live in a true anarchy because it would cause mayhem and those who are natural leaders would take charge in the end dividing all the remaining people into groups.

Golding has obviously proved that we cannot survive without government and order. Without higher authority and cousil we fall apart and no longer work together as a whole. We often get frusterated with our president and such, but there would be complete caos without authority.

Gardenstate--
You make a great point. The militias jockeying for power are a form of goverment, even going as far as to tax people in the "districts" they are running. However much this seems like gangs demanding pay-offs, it is their social structure, and therefore, in my opinion a type of government. So yes, I agree, people will never be free from any type of government...

Lil' Dork,
I see your point! But, would you agree that some people are born to be natural leaders? That they pose leadership qualities?
Other people tend to gravitate around these natural leaders for protection and decision making.
Also, by saying something like "Hey, would you go get me a glass of water?", and someone does, doesn't that kind of assert leadership? You gave someone a command, and they did it for you.
You are now a leader, and anarchy cannot exist.
-gardenstate
I very much agree with tickletight. We need a government as long as it treats everybody fairly, unlike the Germans in WWII. I don't know how it is possible for a country to not have a government, because there would be so much crime and drug use that nobody would survive.

I would have to agree with Golden. Anarchy is clearly impossible to maintain over a long period of time. Eventually bad things will happen if there is no source of punishment or form of keeping rules/guidelines. Golding expresses this with little kids running around unsupervised. As soon as one kid recognized this fact it resulted in destruction. I think that society would not be able to operate without some form of government.
*Raster*
I agree. As long as the government wasn't the Nazi's or an unfair government that treats poeple badly. (Like a lot of the governments in the world) I think otherwise government is good!
-sleepingbeauty<3
How do many governments start though? Do they start on good grounds or bad? Look at Castro in Cuba. Did his intentions really start out pure?

I don't think the world could function without order and rules. Without rules someone could take a stick of your gum, and then you could go out and shoot them with no consequence. That would be ridiculous, and I wouldn't want to live in a world like that.
-skittles
As human beings, we cannot handle anarchy. I know this sounds ridiculous but we are pack animals. We are meant to live together. Individuality won't last even if we tried and could get dangerous.
-YourMom
A true anarchy is really hard to accomplish. this is true because there is some people who have to be a control freak and have things go there way.

I think you will want to get a facebook icon to your site. Just marked down the site, but I must complete this manually. Just my suggestion.
Anarchy is completely impossible. It is human nature to want power. Therefore, if person X has power, person Y will also want power, so then person Y will try his hardest to overthrow person X and then, when person X is overthrown, his system will be overthrown as well, then person Y will have power and his system, then person Y will take over for person X, but person Z will take over for person Y and try to gain power, and so on. There will always be a system, no matter if its a good system or bad system.
